Agowilt - S/T

The word "Agowilt" refers to the sensation of feeling physically ill due a a sudden, overwhelming fear. This is something I actually experience frequently. I am an anxious person and it's not uncommon for me to go dizzy with a sudden surge of nauseous dread. So if you name your band Agowilt, best deliver, friends.

And deliver Agowilt does. The description for the band lists them as "blackened doom," which is fair, but I think there's a sort of low-fi, 90s, heavy sludge element here. Something like Suffering Luna or Jesuit. Contemporarily, a band like Thou or Nightfell might be an apt comparison. Certainly they have a raw blackened sound, and yes, it's applied to slow, heavy music, but there's a definite influence of late 90s/early 2000s hardcore that really appeals to me. Either way, this band is crusty, sludgy, and brutal as anything you've heard lately. The album was recorded 8 years ago, but just put out this month, and is PWYW on Bandcamp. Definitely check it out. You won't be disappointed.
