Doomfall - S/T

This is an incredibly solid first release from Dallas' Doomfall. Living up to their name, they layer fairly traditional, but well done, riffs under some really compelling, belted-out vocals. I'm not always a huge fan of the "dude screaming while girl sings over it" thing, not for any inherent reason, but I think most bands that do it make it sound really cringey, like they're trying to do some weird Phantom of the Opera bullshit. But then along comes Doomfall, trading off guttural growls with soaring vocals that complement each other nicely, to shut my mouth. I think it helps that the singing, here, isn't the over-the-top operatic type but, instead, much more earthy and witchy in a way that feels right at home nestled in the sludgy riffs and growls that fill out the band's sound. Overall, definitely give this a listen and keep your eye on Doomfall. Hopefully they have more releases like this one in the future.
