Vaar - As Dusk Fell

It's been a minute since I posted something cause of the whole "pandemic quarantine messing with my schedule" thing, but I wanted to drop a note about this release.

Vaar is a black metal band from Olympia, WA who just put out this three song EP titled "As Dusk Fell" last week. It's some of the better melodic black metal I've heard recently, balancing shimmering atmospherics, contemplative folk, and aggressive, blast beat-driven fury nicely. I used to live out in this area, and I get why it inspires this kind of music. There's something about the natural environment out there that lends itself well to meditative music, and the aesthetics of this genre of post-WitTR/Panopticon folk-ambient black metal are perfect for it. It's only a dollar on Bandcamp, so if you like this stuff, go check it out. I've been listening to it all week.
